Our Mission
Everyday in our lives, we rely on seafarers. If you only noticed, seafarers and fishermen's work are very important, for they are the ones who bring us fuel, clothing, food, goods and accessories, gas, etc. from countries around the world. These seafarers and fishermen are often away from their home and parishes for more than 9 months and it's not easy for lives to be out there in the middle of the sea, embracing loneliness, tough works, long hours of work, inadequate food, and even the threats of piracy. We, the AOS Chaplain and volunteers at Kaohsiung Port, reach out to seafarers, fishermen, their families and all who work or travel on the high seas. We pray for their safety and wellness. We offer practical assistances to these seafarers to look after them and meet their basic needs: solidarity with the oppressed, a safe work environment, a just contract and treatment, a safe haven while in port, spiritual renewal and sustenance, communication with loved ones back home, a few hours of relax and recreation, and most of all, ragardless of religions and races, a genuine welcome and hospitality to all. Our mission is very simple, to look after the wellbeing of these People of the Sea and to enable them to be the "light" of Christ for each other.
